Together with our strategic partners in industry, research and government environments we consequently and successfully realize the technology evolution cycle from fundamental research, to applied research to pre-product testbed deployments and trials.

Focusing more on fundamental research topics, where early ideas and concepts are analyzed and evaluated, our team from TUB provides a rich pool of prototype developments and state-of-the-art expertise. Within the NGN2FI Evolution Lab, cutting edge FI mechanisms are continuously tested and applied to NGN systems and platforms, thus fostering the evolution of NGNs towards the FI.
Leveraging most promising ideas and early prototypes from TUB, our team from Fraunhofer FOKUS continuously enhances NGN technologies and services by applying FI technologies. Consequently, focusing more on applied R&D, Fraunhofer FOKUS maintains and evolves its globally recognized NGN testbeds, providing matured NGN technologies and services for the NGN connectivity layer (FUSECO Playground), the NGN session control layer (OpenIMS Playground , Open MTC), as well as for the NGN service layer (Open SOA Telco Playground). Those NGN testbeds are constantly deployed world-wide at University sites, Operator sites and Vendor labs.
Within the NGN2FI Evolution Lab, we are currently focusing on the following FI research fields:
-Horizontal and vertical federation
-Machine-to-machine communication
By applying those FI mechanisms to our NGN testbeds, we constantly enhance NGN mechanisms at the network infrastructure level enhancing the OpenIMS and the OpenEPC, as well as at the NGN service platform level where FI mechanisms constantly enhance our SOA-based SDP (Open SOA Telco Playground), the FOKUS Broker as well the NGN client “MyMonster TCS”.
